Artist Statement:
Joanne Gigliotti, painting in batik, used this resist method on cloth, transitioned to ragboard, then began batiking on ceramic tile. Awarded first place in the American Batik Design Competition by the Indonesian Embassy, then as a guest of the Government of Indonesia, her work was exhibited extensively there. Formerly she was Director of the Smithsonian Associates Studio Arts Department, after teaching batik/studio classes and exhibiting across the United States. She is represented in many collections, including the National Museum for Women in the Arts and the McCormick Collection. She holds a BFA, Carnegie Mellon, and M.Ed, Art, Penn State. She is included in Who's Who in American Art as an artist and arts administrator.
