Textiles

Artist Statement:

Hillary Steel's textile art is held in private and public collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery, The Textile Museum in Washington, DC, the American Embassy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and the American Consulate in Tijuana, Mexico. She is a recipient of a 2018 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award and a 2020 Montgomery County Arts and Humanities Artists and Scholars Grant.

In addition to her woven/dyed wall pieces, about 35 years ago Hillary began making one-of-a-kind wearables – warm winter scarves and silk resist-dyed shawls and scarves – which is what she is offering for JRA Day.
