Artist Statement:
Barbara Mann has been a producing studio potter for more than 40 years. She makes colorful and highly graphic table lamps, bowls, lidded jars, and tile tables with botanical and aquatic themes. Recently she has experimented with primitive firing techniques using compounds of metals like iron, copper, and silver. This results in some interesting surfaces, where the elusive main element is the ghost of a leaf. In her day job she helps faculty researchers at Old Dominion University write grant proposals.
