Artist Statement:

Barbara Lee Smith is an artist, writer, educator, lecturer, and curator. She has exhibited her work and taught in the United States and many parts of the world. Her book, Celebrating the Stitch, helped to put contemporary embroidery on the art world map. Her work is in the collections of the Renwick Gallery, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Racine Art Museum, and Tacoma Art Museum, as well as other collections around the world. An interview with Barbara is part of the Archives of American Artists. She lives and works in the oldest commercial building in Durham, North Carolina.
