Artist Statement:  

Sylvia Gottwald transforms traditional materials such as mother of pearl and pearls into avant garde contemporary art. Her designs incorporate the natural with manmade materials like rubber and stainless steel.

Since 2000, her work has been published in countless magazines and exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, including the Palais du Louvre, Paris; the Musée de la Nacre et de la Tabletterie, Méru; the Museum of Modern Art, New York City; the Academy Art Museum, Easton, Maryland; and the Watergate Gallery, Washington, DC.

She studied in Rome and Montreal prior to arriving in the United States, where she earned an MA in architecture from Harvard. She practiced architecture nationally and internationally until 2000.
