Barbara Pliskin, after serving as the Medical Illustrator for the U. of Miami, School of Medicine for 6 years, spent the next 30 years as an art teacher with Dade County Public Schools before moving to Maryland.  She has been involved in many forms of art with a concentration in painting and later in metals. She often has incorporated her knowledge of human anatomy in both her paintings and metalwork. Speaking of her work, she says “I try to let the medium lead me in my effort to create a piece.” She is a member of the Waverly Street Gallery, an art cooperative in Bethesda, where her jewelry is on display.
